The scale also offers notable resistance to extreme heat for anyone behind the shield, being powerful enough to negate the heat of highly volcanic areas. Depending on the angle, the fire either spreads after hitting the shield or can be redirected, allowing Tom to aim fire originally aimed at him. The Dragon Scale allows Tom's shield to protect the user against fire. Whether this applies to every object or only Tom's shield due to it being made of wood taken from the Tree of Being is unclear. As such, the Dragon Scale allows the object it is embedded in to develop traits similar to Ferno's body. The Fire Dragon allows the shield's user to negate fire. Like the other shield tokens, it allows Tom to communicate with Ferno from significant distances, often glowing when the Beast is effected.
